Our What's On Editor Craig Jones missed the Leeds Fest rites of passage trip as a teenager but he's made up for it in his 30s
So yeah, in the surreal stakes, partying with Jedward at Leeds Festival is pretty much up there. It was just one of the many random tales from a weekend spent in a big field.
And, I'd stress, I think however you feel on that matter, young or old, it is 100 per cent the right way to look at things as it is what you are comfortable with. But personally speaking, and many people who know me will be aware of just how much I love festival season, I had a great time at Bramham Park.
Enough of that scene setting though, let’s get to the reasons why I enjoyed the visit so much. Obviously, the music is pretty important and with headliners including The Killers, Billie Eilish and Foals, among others, the Leeds Fest team certainly couldn’t be accused of scrimping in 2023. Elsewhere, for me, I truly savour being able to switch off for a few days and just be in a completely different atmosphere. I confess, switching off clearly isn’t quite as practical when you are actually working at an event but I’m sure you get the point.
As, I can assure you when I jokingly asked Leeds Fest boss Melvin Benn if I could headline in 2024, warbling a cover of Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles, his answer confirmed to me I have absolutely no star quality.
