What to expect from Gordon Ramsay’s new Manchester restaurant Lucky Cat
Gordon Ramsay opened the doors of his new Manchester restaurant today - the stunning old Midland Bank at 100 King Street. Formerly Jamie Oliver’s Jamie’s Italian, it’s been closed since 2019.
Now with a new lease of life, this stunning piece of art deco real estate houses the second of Ramsay’s Lucky Cat restaurants, with the flagship right in the middle of Mayfair in London.It’s inspired by the ‘kissas’ of 1930s Tokyo - drinking and jazz dens of varying repute - with well-appointed booths all around the outside of the room, balcony view seating and a private dining room in the basement vault, where diners will be surrounded by the original safety deposit boxes.
The Manchester Evening News got a sneak preview of some of the dishes that will be on offer in the new space, including pork belly bao buns , monkfish tempura , ‘JFC’ and the special egg fried rice , with a slow-cooked egg which is mixed at the table. Meanwhile, lamb chops come spiced with a chilli sauce and tofu cream , there’s beef short rib with charred pickled gem lettuce and a split thai ‘phat phet’ sauce, and Korean spiced black cod .
