The price cap has been reduced from £2,074 to £1,923 - putting it at its lowest level since March 2022. Here's what that means for bills this autumn

But despite this, forecasters have warned that some households will still face higher bills going into winter than they did last year.last winter was kept at £2,500 by the Government’s energy price guarantee, additional Government support – the energy bill support scheme – gave every household a £400 discount on their energy bills for winter 2022-23.

Ofgem’s energy price cap limits the amount a supplier can charge per unit of gas or electricity to households in England, Scotland and Wales. This means that from October this year the average annual energy bill for a household paying direct debit is £1,923, while for an average prepay household it is £1,949, Ofgem said.
