From childcare costs to ending male violence against women and girls.
And that’s it! Those are the runners and riders in the race to become the next Prime Minister. Ultimately, Dr. Mary-Ann Stephenson from the Women’s Budget Group concludes that ‘all the people vying to be Prime Minister are studiously avoiding the fact that people are struggling to put food on the table’ and those people are more likely to be women. They’ve all been in government in recent years and “there isn’t a sense among any of them that they have been a champion for women,” she adds.
So it’s all in safe hands! It’s a good thing there isn’t a major crisis of gender equality going on being hidden behind a nebulous culture war. Luckily, of the Conservative Party members who will decide who wins, 71% are men, 97% are white and 44% of over the age of 65 so our interests are covered. Oh wait.
