Hospital bosses employed at the time when Lucy Letby murdered seven babies and tried to kill others are facing calls to be investigated over their response to concerns
Orthopaedic surgeon Ian Harvey, who retired just weeks after Letby’s arrest, has been accused of delaying contacting the police to investigate unexplained deaths on the neonatal ward at the Countess of Chester Hospital.A former hospital employee told thethat Mr Harvey, who now lives in France, responded to the possibility of a public inquiry into the killings, by saying: “They would have to find me first.
Dr Brearey has accused Ms Moore of allowing Letby to remain working with babies on the unit, potentially enabling the attack on Baby Q, which took place the following day. In a statement, Ms Moore, who now lives on a farm in Wales, said she was “completely unaware of any complaints” about Letby before 24 June 2016, and that as soon as Mr Brearey and another consultant came to her with concerns, she notified the then director of nursing Alison Kelly.Ms Kelly was accused in court of failing to act when doctors raised “serious concerns” about Letby during her tenure.
Ms Kelly, now a director of nursing at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust in the Manchester area, is facing calls for actions in response to Letby whistleblowing to be investigated., she said: “These are truly terrible crimes and I am deeply sorry that this happened to them. We owe it to the babies and their families to learn lessons and I will fully co-operate with the independent inquiry announced.
