In boxing, anything can happen
Tyson Fury has been officially ordered to defend his WBC heavyweight title against Dillian Whyte next.
However, for purse bids to be possible, the sanctioning body need to rule on a percentage split for the fight, deciding who gets what portion of the winning bid. This is a major issue of contention at present with Whyte currently locked in legal arbitration with the WBC. Fury’s team have stated that an 80/20 purse split in their man’s favour is what they believe to be fair.
Without this, it is difficult to realistically negotiate as the entire scenario will change depending on what split is ultimately decided. The champion had a 20-month layoff between his last two fights with Deontay Wilder and does not intend to be inactive for so long again. He’s already told his promoters Bob Arum and Frank Warren to secure him a bout in March, and so Arum has now suggested they could abandon the Whyte fight and move on.
