There are a number of traditions and rules that are imposed within parliament, and it is down to the House Speaker to enforce these.
The speaker is in charge of deciding who speaks and when, as well as calling for order if things get a little too rowdy.Why do MPs stand in parliament?This is because they can only speak after being called by the House Speaker, and stand in order to do so – or half-rise.
