Humza Yousaf will be Scotland's first Muslim and ethnic minority leader

The contest to succeed her has proven no less historic, delivering the country its first ever ethnic minority and Muslim leader in Humza Yousaf.
Yousaf, 37, was announced the Scottish National Party’s sixth leader—and, by extension, the Scottish government’s First Minister-designate—in Edinburgh on Monday, marking the end of what had become an acrimonious and unpredictable leadership contest. Of, which included the Scottish finance secretary Kate Forbes and former junior minister Ash Regan, Yousaf was widely seen as the continuity candidate and the favorite of the SNP leadership . In the end, he secured the backing of 52.
Now that Yousaf has been named SNP leader, the next step will be for him to be formally nominated to be First Minister by the Scottish Parliament—a vote that is due to take place in Holyrood on Tuesday. Yousaf will then be officially sworn in at the Court of Session, Scotland’s supreme civil court, on Wednesday.
