The Man United midfielder was spotted imitating a famous celebration as his Tunisia side beat Egypt on Tuesday evening.
Tunisian forward Mohamed Elias Achouri insists Hannibal Mejbri was not the one to instigate a celebration that seemed to mock Mohamed Salah during the international break - and the midfielder was merely copying his teammates.
"You have to know that it wasn’t Hannibal who started it," Achouri told Danish outlet Tipsbladet. "It was Hamza Rafia who scored the goal. Hannibal has continued to impress when away with Tunisia and is expected to be part of the squad during next year's Africa Cup of Nations. As such, the 20-year-old could miss up to nine United matches as one of four Reds set to be involved in the tournament during January and February.
