The historic coastal city of Porto is not one that should be overlooked for your next trip and with direct flights now running from Glasgow, it is one that should be on everyone's list.

In Porto, families come to the table later than usually found in Scotland – often friends and family do not sit down to eat until after 7pm, and are still found at the table several hours later. Starting the weekend break off with a half-day city tour with the excellent tour guide Nuno from Living Tours, we were driven about the city, taking in the highlights it had to offer.

Should you stumble across a book shop with a large queue outside, you have undoubtedly found Livraria Lello. This bookstore, often named the most beautiful in the world, has been touted as inspiration for a shop within the Harry Potter universe.
