Virgil van Dijk's red card versus Newcastle United was checked and cleared by VAR officials following the Liverpool defender's foul on Alexander Isak.
Replays suggested Van Dijk made contact with the ball before the Swedish forward, though VAR officials Stuart Attwell and Constantine Hatzidakis reviewed the footage and were content with Brooks' original call. The only way this could have been overturned was if the pair determined a 'clear and obvious' error had been committed by their colleague.
