The big brand name will vanish from the high street for good
Up to 400 stores will close forever by early October with up to 12,500 staff being made redundant. So far just 51 shops have been saved as B&M has taken them on in a £13m deal. But these will be rebranded as B&M and it is not clear if any jobs will be saved.
It added: “Although separate bids may be made for leases of groups of sites, these deals will not secure jobs, although the option to take up new employment with the bidders for these sites is something we are now pushing for. This is not the news our members or the GMB had been hoping for or working towards. The sad news came after the last-ditch attempt by the owner of HMV to strike a rescue deal for stricken retailer Wilko failed.
