Blackpool Winter Gardens' '1970s working men’s club' bars in line for snazzy upgrades
Bars at the Empress Ballroom and the Opera House will be upgraded after schemes at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens were approved by planners.
It follows the refurbishment of two other bars in the ballroom in 2021 which has seen turnover increase by more than 25 per cent. Meanwhile the Circle Bar annex at the Opera House, which is currently used for storage, will be transformed into a private space offering “a luxury premium experience that can hold 16-20 guests”, according to documents submitted with the application.
Winter Gardens managing director Michael Williams said: “The proposed refurbishment of the Empress Ballroom Bar and Opera House Circle Bar is being financed by the loan that was approved in 2022. The initial refurbishment and investment into the Empress Ballroom bars, The Galleon Bar and the Victoria, is already proving successful with improved efficiencies and enhanced sales.
