Food Train works in Lanarkshire through its Connects services, which matches someone aged 65 and over with a volunteer who supports them with shopping or meal-sharing - providing invaluable company along the way.

Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson hosted a Holyrood event with older people’s charity Food Train focusing on malnutrition in older people in Scotland.

“I am privileged to host Food Train in the Scottish Parliament. I first came across the charity through its Eat Well Age Well Project. This work has been integral to highlighting the prevalence of malnutrition and the challenges that older people face in ageing well. “Malnutrition affects older people in every community in Scotland. Addressing it will require systemic changes to build a fairer Scotland where older people can live and age well.”

This comes on top of screening carried out by Food Train’s Eat Well Age Well project and partner organisations, which has found that 16 per cent of the 4,165 older people assessed since 2019 were at risk of malnourishment. That’s higher than official estimates of one in 10.
