Today marks the Walk of Remembrance to commemorate Slavery Remembrance Day
A digital artist who celebrates the African diaspora said this year's Slavery Remembrance Day will help make her community "visible" in the city.
"We also have to honour the contributions we have made to the world, not only in art, music and dance, but in science and technology. The day will be a celebration of our culture." This is important also for Michelle Peterkin-Walker, who said Slavery Remembrance Day "allows us to remember the evils of slavery to ensure these things don't happen again". She added: "We might have been victimised by Europeans but we are survivors.
