She ignored a penalty
A Nottinghamshire woman has been fined more than £1,000 for failing to deal with a build-up of 10 bin bags full of rubbish in her garden. Donna Blackmore ignored a community protection notice served in March 2021 which required her to remove the waste from her garden and around her property in Sutton-in-Ashfield.
Blackmore, formerly of Percival Crescent, subsequently received a fine of £100, which she also ignored. Ashfield District Council said its community safety team had no choice but to prosecute her. Appearing at Derby Magistrates' Court on October 20, 2022, Blackmore was fined £660 for failing to comply with the notice, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £66, and pay legal costs of £355. Councillor Helen-Ann Smith, portfolio holder for community safety and crime reduction said Blackmore had disregarded her neighbours and ignored the district council.
Antonio Taylor, community safety manager, added: “I want to thank the officers involved in this case who ensured a fantastic outcome for the residents impacted by these issues. We will always attempt to engage residents and support them to manage their waste responsibly, unfortunately on this occasion due to a lack of engagement and the adverse impact to neighbouring properties, we had to escalate the case and take legal action”.
