Emergency services descended on the A70 in Cumnock, close to Dumfries House, shortly after midnight on Sunday.
Police in Ayrshire have arrested a 53-year-old driver in connection with a crash that killed his passenger near King Charles' Scottish residence.
Detectives investigating the smash have arrested the 53-year-old driver, who sustained minor injuries, in connection with the one-car collision. Officers say formal identification of the passenger has yet to take place but next of kin have been informed. Sergeant Kevin Craig of Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who has died. Our enquiries into the circumstances of what happened are under way.
