Viewers of the viral video couldn't believe they had never thought of putting their lights up this way
For many, putting up the Christmas tree is the highlight of the festive season as they enjoy deciding where to place the baubles, tinsel and fairy lights. Most tree decorations can be placed anywhere, but many people tend to cover their trees in twinkly lights by curling each set fully around the plant.
"If you're curling your Christmas tree lights, you're doing it wrong," she said. "Decorating Christmas trees used to be part of my job - we used the zig zag method." According to Clare, you won't need to place lights on the back of the tree where they won't be seen. "It means you don't waste lights around the back of your tree and if a set breaks you can take them off easily," she concluded.
