A 25-year-old woman has confessed to lying about being abducted from the side of a busy road in the US, thrown into a truck and blindfolded

Her disappearance prompted a nationwide search, with images of Ms Russell shared widely on social media. She returned home two days later, telling police she had stopped to check on a child walking by the highway when she was grabbed by a man and forced into an 18-wheeler truck. She claimed he had held her at a home where she was fed cheese crackers by a woman. “There was no kidnapping on Thursday, July 13. My client did not see a baby on the side on the road,” the statement read, according to Nicholas Derzis, the Hoover police department chief, who read it at a news conference.“My client apologises for her actions to this community, the volunteers who were searching for her, to the Hoover Police Department and other agencies as well, as to her friends and family.
