A woman is to undergo a rare double hand transplant after losing all of her limbs to sepsis from a urinary tract infection. Kim spent nine weeks in a coma and had her hands and legs amputated after she contracted the infection on holiday in 2017.

Doctors diagnosed her with sepsis, which is the body’s extreme response to infection, and immediately induced her into a coma. ‘I could see that it was obvious that my limbs needed to be amputated. When the doctor said it I just said “yes that’s fine, get it done!”The sepsis was caused by a common urinary tract infection
Kim said: ‘The doctors did an X-ray on me just two days before I was admitted, but as nothing was broke, they sent me away.
