Toyota driver Elfyn Evans wins all stages on Friday morning in RallyEstonia to move into the lead, as home favourite Ott Tanak grabs second spot for Hyundai. Report:
Evans produced a faultless display across the four gravel tests to open up a 12.5s lead over Hyundai’s Ott Tanak, with championship leader Kalle Rovanpera third, 18.7s adrift.
After rolling his Toyota in shakedown, Takamoto Katsuta reached service in seventh, while Gus Greensmith, Pierre-Louis Loubet and Oliver Solberg completed the Rally1 field. Evans had feared a severe jump early in the test but the Toyota driver, and the majority of the field, elected to negotiate the drop carefully.
Overnight leader Breen was a further 0.4s slower ahead of Neuville, while Lappi dropped time battling a brake issue that shook his confidence. Meanwhile, the brake problem worsened for Lappi, although Toyota driver managed to limit the loss to 10.7s. Neuville dropped 10.0s after revealing that he was “fighting a lot to keep the car straight” on the test.
