Speaking at the Leaders Sports Business conference in London, Airey was answering a question on where she would want the league and women’s football to be in 20 years time. Airey was speaking alongside Julie Uhrman, Co-founder and President of NWSL club Angel City FC, and throughout the discussion she reiterated the need for the WSL and its clubs to become profitable and sustainable in the immediate future because at present they were “nowhere near breaking even”. said that the governing body was exploring the creation of a stand-alone company for the WSL

Campbell, the FA’s director of women’s football, said the new company would be “independent” and a “wholly-owned subsidiary” but the FA would still remain a shareholder.
