A young girl has died and a second child has been taken to hospital following a crash in Carrickfergus town centre, local sources have said.
Stunned locals were left reeling after the day's tragic events with one local passing the police cordon telling reporters that "it's a sad day for the town."Speaking to Belfast Live at the scene, local UUP MLA John Stewart said that his thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by today's events.
"Following initial assessment and treatment at the scene, one patient was taken by Ambulance to Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children." Sergeant Green said: “We received a report at approximately 11.40am of a one vehicle road traffic collision. Officers attended together with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance but sadly Scarlett passed away at the scene.
