Young Blackpool man died 20 months after first blackout which left him gasping for breath
Doctors were unable to explain why a Blackpool man suffered multiple medical episodes which left him confused and struggling to breathe before he died aged 28.
Explaining that incident, Holly said Sam phoned her as drove home work and tried to explain what had happened. She said: "He said he didn't know what happened but he seemed to have crashed his van into a garden. He seemed quite confused, he said he remembered leaving the house but after that he didn't really remember at all."
Sam quickly turned purple and began struggling to breathe while looking at his dad 'as if he was asking for help'. He then fell to a 'lifeless slump' before his dad managed to stop the van and began CPR while waiting for an ambulance. The first responder who arrived at the scene congratulated Mr Watkins on saving his son's life.
Concerns over Sam’s episodes led to medical checks including the fitting of a 'loop' device which monitored his heart for any abnormalities. Dr Shajil Chalil, consultant cardiologist at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, told the inquest that nothing occurred over the six month period which was considered to be an issue of concern.
