makes her happy, and Connie can’t wait to get up on stage.
The three young women are part of Choir 21, a talented group of performers who came together during lockdown and who are now preparing for their biggest gig so far - supporting The Bluebells in a sold-out show at the Strathaven Hotel on Saturday .
The choir’s performance is part of Sandfest, a fundraising concert which started in Katy’s back garden in Sandford, a small village in Lanarkshire, in 2007. Katy and her husband, Douglas MacIntyre, are well-known musicians and through their contacts, Sandfest attracted a host of performers from the likes of Aztec Camera, Del Amitri, Love and Money and The Bluebells.
“I really love using Makaton to sing and sign to pop songs and it is amazing to join in with others,” she explains. “It makes me feel proud of myself. I am excited for our performance with the Bluebells. I love to perform and it will be such an amazing experience. I am really excited.” Grace’s mum, Wendy added: “Down’s Syndrome Scotland and their ABC team have been a massive part of Grace’s life and her communication journey. Makaton has become a massive part of her life. It gives her a purpose, a way of expressing herself and brings her so much joy. Sandfest will be an amazing experience, while also raising money for a wonderful charity who do so much for us.”
