Hemming has proved to be a terrific signing for Buddies boss Stephen Robinson
But for keeper Zach Hemming, there’s a little bit extra incentive to do well. Not because of who it’s against or what a win would mean for the high-flying Buddies in the Premiership. No, this one is personal.
The 23-year-old – who will return to parent club Boro next summer – is determined to succeed in Paisley as payback for the sacrifices Caitlin has made so far in his career. Hemming said: “The only hard thing about moving here was bringing my family up. “I’m lucky to have her. And that’s my motivation at the minute – Caitlin and the kids. She sacrifices a lot for me. She also lost her mum, which was very sad. She was a big part of Caitlin’s life and obviously she has struggled with it.
As a youngster, he was turned away from Newcastle and boyhood club Sunderland after trials. But he’s convinced that if he continues to improve – especially this season at Saints – he’ll eventually get his chance at the Riverside. Hemming said: “I’d like an opportunity at Middlesbrough because I want to play at whatever club I’m at.
