Weekends are for magical, wholesome outdoor adventures, and nobody does magical, wholesome outdoor adventure quite like BeWILDerwood, a sprawling, whimsical woodland attraction based on the children's books of the same name by author Tom Blofeld.
BeWILDerwood is all about the magic of the outdoors, and our visit provided the perfect antidote to a busy week. Completely off-grid and at one with nature, the woodland embodies all the good old-fashioned fun that made my own childhood so memorable. I loved climbing trees, believed wholeheartedly in the curious creatures that lived deep in the woods and took great delight in allowing my creativity and imagination to run wild.
Then, we spotted Toddlewood on the Hill, an exciting play area perfect for little explorers like Nina, made up of a lovely covered sand pit - perfect for keeping little ones safe in the sunshine, and dry in the rain - swings and much smaller Slippery Slopes. We had a little play in the sand, navigated the rickety bridges and the little ones had a go on the swings before we headed to the Big Hat to get crafty.
We stopped off at the enchanting Storytelling Stage, where with the beautiful forest as a backdrop, children are introduced to the magic of the theatre. As part of the day's show, we heard the charming story of BeWILDermuddle, in which Mildred the Crocklebog accidentally turns herself pink and with the help of Vera the Hippopotamuddle, the audience and the wonderful storyteller, she is returned to her beautiful green self once more.
