And the number of people aged 65 or over will have jumped from 39,500 to 46,000. Meanwhile, the number of 16 to 64-year-olds will have fallen from 86,400 to 75,000. Ms White’s report also revealed that life expectancy is falling in the region, with a girl born in 2020 likely to live nine months less than one born in 2011.Meanwhile, death rates have been “showing signs of increase” – something the report warns was happening before the coronavirus pandemic began in 2020.
