Don't get caught out by parcels you weren't expecting
A warning has been issued by Amazon after a new scam, that sees cheap items turning up at people's houses despite them not placing an order, is circulating.
The Mirror reports that sellers are making fake orders so that they can create positive, misleading reviews. Generating fake sales means the seller will rank higher when it comes to search results, allowing them in-turn to potentially make more money.Which? said: "Ultimately, this results in more people seeing and buying their poor-quality products, under the impression that they’re highly rated.
Which? suggests that some people have reported falling victim to the scam after purchasing a different item online, whereas other suggestions include that your details have been taken from a publicly available source, or have been accessed as part of a data leak. It has also been said that another variation of the 'brushing' scam is doing the rounds.
