Appeals depend on what type of ticket you've received.
; normally, you will receive a discount if you pay sooner, 50 per cent for a PCN or ECN within 14 days and 40 to 60 per cent for a private PCN for payment within the same amount of days. You must write to the council to outline your reasoning for the objection within 14 days . With ECNs, you have at least seven days to appeal.
You should send evidence, including tickets, photos, photos of any signs that could help your case, a 'witness statement' from any passengers or people who were with you at the time , and any repair information if you broke down.Send copies rather than originals so you have proof, and if your efforts are successful, the PCN or ECN will be cancelled. If the formal appeal is rejected, you can appeal to a tribunal.
Ensure you include the same information as a council PCN or ECN and any evidence of landowner permission if you have it. If it's a hospital, provide evidence of any late appointments . There are also some exemptions to fines in hospital car parks, such as Blue Badge holders, certain outpatients, hospital employees, or parents/guardians of hospitalised children. If clamped on private land, check if it's the police, the council, the DVLA, or a private firm, and then call the police on 101 to have it removed.First, check if it is a police or council notice, then lodge an informal appeal in writing.
Ensure you include all of the evidence and information that you would with a council PCN or ECN, with police appeals sent to the central ticket office closest to the site where the fine was issued .Again, if the informal appeal is rejected, it's best to pay the fine or risk court appearances and further costs.Have you ever appealed a ticket?
