BBC chief gives update on Huw Edwards 'fact-finding investigation' amid 'explicit photo' allegations

The BBC's director-general has given an update into the 'fact-finding investigation' the corporation is carrying out into newsreader Huw Edwards following allegations he paid a teenager thousands of pounds for sexually explicit photos. Speaking before the House of Lords communications and digital committee, Tim Davie said the probe could take “weeks or a couple of months or even longer” - and confirmed the corporation had been in touch with the original complainant.

“Because I’m not control of all the variables that could take weeks or a couple of months or even longer, depending on what we get and managing the individuals concerned flawlessly. My main priority is to be fair and get all the information into that process and act judiciously.” He also said there is “a safe place” where staff can go to raise concerns, outlining a whistleblowing complaints process that is “external and confidential”.
