More leading BBC presenters could quit in frustration at the operation of its revamped News channel, insiders fear, following the shock departure of Yalda Hakim 🔴 Exclusive adamsherwin10
Yalda Hakim, named one of the “faces” of the relaunched BBC News channel merging domestic and international news, announced she was quitting after just four months of the new service to join Sky News.
“The frustration goes beyond Yalda. The new channel isn’t serving domestic or international audiences. Viewing figures are falling. Other presenters could quit too if they get better offers.” The BBC appointed Hakim, Moshiri, Matthew Amroliwala, Christian Fraser and Lucy Hockings as chief presenters – or “the faces of our channel” – during a process which saw veteran anchors Joanna Gosling and Tim Willcox leave the broadcaster.
BBC News remains the most-watched news network in the UK, beating closest rival Sky News, which will give new signing Hakim her own prime-time international news show. The merged channel was an opportunity to “modernise the way we deliver the news – while addressing the financial challenges we face,” BBC News digital director Naja Nielsen said at its launch.
