Belfast's Indian community will come together to celebrate Diwali, a five-day festival of feasting, family, and fireworks. Diwali is celebrated on the 15th day of the Hindu month of Kartik and symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. The festival includes the worship of the Goddess Lakshmi for happiness, prosperity, and fame. Traditionally, homes and shops are decorated with small oil lamps called diyas, and fireworks and sweets are enjoyed.

Belfast's Indian community will come together next weekend to celebrate the festival of lights, known as Diwali.

Diwali's date is determined by the India calendar. It is observed on the 15th day of the 8th month in India's calendar. The day is an Amavasya or 'new moon day'.Diwali is derived from Sanskrit word Deepavali meaning 'Line of Lamps' - a time to come together to celebrate the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

Belfast Diwali - 2023 is being organised by Belfast-based Indian voluntary organisation ImageNation NI. Their vision is to have an inclusive Indian community in Northern Ireland together with building the much essential bridge between local and other ethnic diverse communities.
