A survey of 2000 Scots shows more than a third aren't aware of Scottish Government grant and loan schemes to help with energy efficiency and boiler replacement costs.

Two in five Scots can’t afford green energy upgrades ahead of the looming phase-out of gas boilers, a new poll shows.

And with the Home Energy Scotland Scheme, people can get grants of £7500 - rising to £9000 in rural areas - to replace boilers with eco-friendly alternatives like heat pumps. Jocelyne Fleming, policy and public affairs officer for the organisation in Scotland, said: “We must improve the energy efficiency of Scotland’s draughty homes at a greater pace and scale than we’ve seen to date to reach our climate change objectives, reduce fuel poverty and ensure everyone in Scotland has a warm, safe, home that is affordable to heat.

She added: "This delivery plan needs to consider the resources necessary to get there, such as the recruitment and retention of a skilled workforce.” The CIOB poll, conducted by Opinion Matters in August, found that as well as affordability and low awareness, a fifth of people are put off from energy upgrades due to disruption in their home and around a quarter because they don’t own their home.
