Management at Cameron House on Loch Lomond has come under fire after sacking chefs and waiting staff at one of their restaurants after failing to earn a Michelin star.
The decision to sack chefs and waiting staff at a luxury hotel after failing to earn a Michelin star has been branded 'morally indefensible' by a hospitality union.
Hotel chiefs claimed the restaurant had been a failure as it didn’t get a prestigious Michelin star and had been losing money. However, sources said that achieving the culinary gong had never been a condition of employment when the venue opened in August 2021. "Martin and Paul had a meeting half an hour before we did and they were told then that it was closing. It’s shocking when it’s their names on the restaurant."
“Getting a Michelin star was never in the employment contracts when they were approached about the project – that’s not something you could ever require. It’s an ambition but you can’t use it as a condition of employment. Cameron House has four other bars and restaurants on site but the staff’s trade union claimed no effort has been made to redeploy them elsewhere.Bryan Simpson, of Unite the Union, said: “The way in which members at Cameron House have been treated by senior management is morally indefensible and potentially unlawful. They have refused to seriously consider reasonable alternatives to prevent job losses.
