UPDATE: An eight-year-old girl has died following a crash in Carrickfergus, police confirm.
She was Scarlett Rosborough, from the Larne area.A second child, a boy, was taken to The Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children by ambulance. Police say his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The air ambulance attended the incident as well as police officers and staff from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. The ambulance service said it received a 999 call following reports of a traffic accident in the High Street area.Ulster Unionist Party MLA for the area John Stewart said it was a tragic event for the community.The air ambulance attended the incident in Carrickfergus, landing at Carrickfergus Castle
"We are dealing with the overwhelming grief. We have the loss of a child and another in hospital," he told BBC News NI.High Street in Carrickfergus remains closed. A police spokesperson advised people to seek alternative routes for their journeys to avoid the area.
