Police said the victim was trying to defuse the situation

Police have released CCTV images after a man was punched in the face in an unprovoked attack on a tram. The incident took place as the tram was pulling into Beeston at around 7.45pm on Friday, May 26.

The 23-year-old victim decided to intervene when an aggressive man was threatening another tram passenger, Nottinghamshire Police said. Abuse was then hurled at the victim before he was punched in the face. Other passengers intervened and the man then left the tram at Beeston, before police were called. Officers have carried out a number of lines of inquiry and have now released CCTV images of a man that could help with their inquiries.A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said: "This was a completely unprovoked attack on a man just trying to diffuse the situation and help another innocent member of the public.

"We have released images of a man that could help us with our inquiries and calling on the public's help to identify him. Do you know the man in the pictures or are you the man in the pictures? Please get in touch with us as soon as possible."
