Figures show police investigated four 10-year-olds and six 11-year-olds before referring them to Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration (SCRA).
Children as young as 10 are being reported for sexual offences in Scotland, the Sunday Mail can reveal.
Access to pornography has been blamed as one of the triggers for the large number of the referrals and campaigners have called for greater prevention programmes for children to target behaviours and attitudes that can escalate to sexual violence. “We are worried about the impact of pornography on young people and their attitudes towards sex and women’s sexuality. Our prevention workers often find that boys really value having a safe and open space to talk about these issues and ask questions.
In July, we told how a mum, identified only as Julie, hit out after her daughter’s 15-year-old rapist did not face criminal prosecution because he had to be legally treated as a child. Mya, who was 14 when the attack happened, was devastated that her alleged attacker didn’t face charges in court.
