The reduction in drug-related deaths – from 50 in 2021 to 39 in 2022 – means the area has fallen out of the top five local authorities for drug deaths in Scotland.

Drug-related deaths in Renfrewshire have fallen for a second year but remain “too high”, new figures have revealed.

In 2020, it sat just behind the major cities of Glasgow and Dundee but now sits seventh on the shameful table. The dedicated team of experienced journalists, responsible for the publication of the award-winning Express, will focus on breaking news, day and night, across Renfrewshire’s towns and villages.

However, the introduction of a series of new services by Renfrewshire HSCP in the past 18 months is having an impact. It also allows them access to the free supply and disposal of injecting equipment, blood testing, wound first aid alongside the training and distribution of Naloxone – used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.The Renfrewshire HSCP spokesman added: “During the past year, our key areas of focus have centred on maximising opportunities in reducing drug-related harm and deaths.
