Exercise, mindfulness don't appear to boost cognitive function in olderadults, finds large study WUSTLmedschool JAMA_current
Does mindfulness training, exercise, or the combination of these interventions improve cognitive function in older adults with subjective cognitive concerns?In this randomized clinical trial that included 585 participants, mindfulness training, exercise, or both did not result in significant differences in improvement in episodic memory or executive function composite scores at 6 months.
Interventions lasted 18 months and consisted of group-based classes and home practice.The 2 primary outcomes were composites of episodic memory and executive function from neuropsychological testing; the primary end point was 6 months and the secondary end point was 18 months.
