🔴 The family of Harry Dunn hope to use this as an opportunity to press for better road safety outside US bases in the UK
It also clears the way for an inquest to take place into Mr Dunn’s death.
They point to a parliamentary exchange from 1983, in which then minister David Mellor referred to “hundreds, if not thousands” of road traffic accidents outside US bases. Northamptonshire Police has also previously raised concerns about more US personnel driving on the wrong side of the road, as Sacoolas was at the time of the crash.
In 2020, a year after the death of Mr Dunn, the Government commissioned a review into road safety around US visiting forces bases in the UK. She was also disqualified from driving in the UK for 12 months, though she no longer resides in the country.
