Myra Pickup passed away on Friday July 7
Myra Pickup, who was born and raised in Lumb, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 7 aged 95 at Dove Court, Burnley. The beloved mother-of-one and her late husband, Granville, who was from Waterfoot, ran a shop called Pickup’s Grocers on Prospect Road in Rawtenstall for six years.
Myra started working on the machines at Lambert Haworths slipper works based at Whitewell Bottom when she was 14-years-old and worked there for 11 years. In 1971 Myra joined Woodcraft Marquetries where she made marquetries. Myra and Granville met at the Astoria in Rawtenstall and enjoyed ballroom dancing all their lives. They would also dance at home in the living room. They got married in 1952 at St Nicholas Newchurch.The former Lumb County Primary School pupil joined pottery painting classes at Rossendale College as a hobby. She had a sister called Edna who passed away 15 years ago. Myra and Granville enjoyed taking holidays during the winter months, travelling mainly in Spain and Germany.
