95% of parking service members voted to take action
Trade Unions are calling for the First Minister to intervene in a pay row as strike action threatens to impact theThe GMB announced yesterday that 95% of members in parking services employed by the local authority have backed industrial action during the tournament while staff employed at the Emirates Arena, represented by Unite, have also voted in favour of industrial action.
GMB cleansing convenor, Chris Mitchell, who is showing solidarity with his comrades in city parking, said the only way to divert industrial action is for COSLA and the unions to get back around the table and come up with an offer that is worthy of the members. He said: “COSLA has two weeks to get around the table with the trade unions.
“There is an opportunity there to try and divert this very quickly and help low-paid workers out of poverty.” “With only a fortnight to go until the championships kick off there is an onus on all sides to get back around the table and reach a positive solution. The Scottish Government called on all parties to work together to reach a solution that is fair and affordable for everyone.
