, and an increase of 500 steps a day was associated with a 7 per cent reduction in dying from CVD, which affects around seven million people in the UK and is a significant cause of disability and death.
It is responsible for one in four premature deaths in the UK and accounts for the largest gap inThe benefit of walking were strongest among the under-60s. Younger adults who walked 7,000 to 13,000 a day had a 49 per cent reduction in their risk of death. Older adults who walked between 6,000 and 10,000 steps a day reduced their risk by 42 per cent.
