Ticket offices at railway stations across Lancashire and Cumbria are set to close with commuters saying the cuts will hit the most vulnerable.
Passengers will now be forced to use train operators' apps or websites to buy tickets or use the self-service machines at stations with ticket offices in Lancashire and Cumbria set to close including Accrington, Burnley, Oxenholme, Chorley, Ulverston and Whitehaven. Staff have not yet been issued with redundancy notices while consultations take place, the Mirror reports.Commuters who use Accrington station have branded the proposed cuts as "terrible".
Anum Akhtar, 21, a student, said: “For me closing the ticket office won’t make much difference but it will probably mean people will lose their jobs, which is wrong. It’s just another way of saving money.”
