Family and friends of a Nottingham boy who received a heartbreaking cancer diagnosis are fundraising as he has three years of chemotherapy ahead of him. Harvey Symons was diagnosed with lymphoblastic lymphoma on July 29.
“He could swallow but he kept saying he had a lump in his throat. Part of the tumour is up in his throat and the rest was behind his chest bone. From that it was pushing onto his throat so now he has a blood clot in his throat as well.” Emma has been with partner Barry Symons for 25 years and has two children together, Charlotte Symons, 19, and Harvey. She described what the family of four is like: “We’ve been here since we had children. Same family home in Basford for 25 years.
38-year-old Chrissy, who’s Emma’s best friend said: “They have said he will be having chemo for the next 3 and a half years, he’s 14 and it was a shock. You don’t imagine it do you?” The ‘Hike for Harv’ was initially meant to be a hike in the Peak District, however, due to many locals getting involved Chrissy created a route across Nottinghamshire which will begin and end at the Fox and Crown pub in Basford.
