'No parent should be sitting next to an incubator or neonatal cot worrying about work and pay.'

Two charities dedicated to helping families with newborns in neonatal care have welcomed Glasgow City Council’s commitment to offer paid leave to its staff.

“We know that having a premature baby on a neonatal unit for weeks, sometimes months can be a traumatic experience. This important change will mean that parents who work for Glasgow City Council can focus on spending precious time with their baby or babies without worrying about work or pay.” Statutory Neonatal Care Pay will also be available to employees with 26 weeks continuous service and is expected to be paid at the same standard rate as other family leave - currently £172.48 per week.

“That is why The Smallest Things continue to urge employers to make these important changes now and are delighted to see employers, such as Glasgow City Council, continue to sign up to our Employer with Heart Charter.”
