The latest research carried out by National Records Scotland (NRS) shows that last year there were 196 drug misuse deaths in the Glasgow City Council area compared to 311 in 2021 and 291 in 2020.
The number of drug deaths in Glasgow is 'devastating' and still the highest in Scotland despite a sharp drop.
Councillor Allan Casey, City Convener for Workforce, Homelessness and Addiction Services, said: “While it is encouraging to see a reduction this year, Glasgow is still experiencing too high a number of drug related deaths, which have a devastating impact on families and friends. “The expansion of harm reduction interventions, the involvement of people with lived and living experience who continue to link more and more people into recovery communities across the city, and the ongoing implementation of the Scottish Government MAT Standards, is making a difference.”
