The council is currently looking at ways to reduce to impact of the M8 on the city centre with a possible speed limit reduction and plan to turn it into a boulevard-style road being explored.
A reduction of the limit on the city centre stretch of the motorway is among several short, medium and long-term ideas currently being researched by the Glasgow City Council to curb its impact. Among the other ideas is cutting the number of junctions and slip roads, creating a boulevard-style road with active uses and a previously drawn up 'garden cap'.
The potential change split the opinion of many motorists suggesting the measure would further impact car users. Another driver said: "We go to Europe every year. The motorways in Germany, Italy, Austria etc are all set for 81Mph limit and in Germany the unlimited stretches work so well. When will the UK move out of the dark ages.
