Chicago police believe the gunshots that wounded two women at Friday's White Sox game came from inside the stadium.
obtained noted “ Chief McDermott was requesting the Sox stop the game for public safety reasons.” The game continued on, but a postgame concert was canceled.
“At one point in time it was requested as a precaution, but we had no active shooter information, no flare up, as I said, from a weapon, so we didn’t have all of the information,” Waller said. “We made that request initially because we did not know what was going on. We had reports of people being shot at Sox Park, but that wasn’t confirmed and so we allowed the game to continue not to create a panic.
The heavily redacted report noted that one victim “sustained a gunshot wound to the right upper thigh with an exit wound to the lower thigh and a gunshot wound to the right upper calve where the bullet traveled to down to the shin area with the bullet remaining lodged in the victim’s lower leg.” The other victim, the report noted, “suffered a graze wound to the lower abdomen and refused EMS services on scene.
